There is so much information about child development that parents are receiving today. Not all of it is reliable or accurate. You may be left wondering what to believe, what to buy, or whether or not to participate in popular ‘get smart’ trends with your child. We’re mothers too and know you want the best for your child. During our ten year practice as Speech-Language Pathologists we found that there were societal influences and information marketed to parents that, though used with good intention, can decrease a child’s freedom of self and joy in learning and actually result in holding children back.
No skill will be more vital to your child’s future success in life than the ability to communicate effectively. Therefore, we feel a responsibility to challenge this trend, help create a shift in awareness - and ultimately help children maintain their enthusiasm and joy in learning, foster positive self-esteem, and set them up for success in communication in the first 5 years.
